WAMI News

July 2009, Free WAMI iPhone app hits the store

Version 1.0 of the WAMI iPhone browser is out. WAMI apps that worked on your desktop browser are now accessible from the iPhone or 2nd generation iPod touch. Just search "Wami" in the app store, and download your copy today! Leave a review and suggest features for the next update.

In an odd twist, the folks at Apple made us give the app a parental control rating of 17+, because explicit content is accessible from a web browser. We'll see what we can do about reducing this rating in future versions.

May 2009, Android beta program launched

Our WAMI iPhone Browser now has a twin. We're got a proof-of-concept Android WAMI Browser working with the Android 1.5 (cupcake) API. You can use it to interact with any WAMI-enabled website. If you're a WAMI developer working on an application that you think would be perfect for Android (or iPhone), send us an e-mail and we'll enroll you in the Android beta program.

April 2009, SLTC Newletter

See the article on WAMI in IEEE's SLTC April 2009 Newsletter.

April 2009, iPhone beta program launched

We've got a somewhat stable WAMI iPhone Browser now. You can point it at any WAMI-enabled website and just start talking. If you're a developer working on a WAMI app and want to be part of our iPhone beta program, please send us an e-mail.

April 2009, Speech Games on Quizlet Go Live

Quizlet, a popular flashcard website created by Andrew Sutherland, has launched two speech-enabled games for studying using WAMI. Check out Voice Scatter and Voice Race.

April 2009, Javascript API launched

The WAMI Javascript API is now publicly available. It's now easier than ever to integrate WAMI into your website.

February 2009, Edinburgh visit

Alex visited the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics for two weeks as a SICSA visiting fellow. He gave a tutorial on WAMI, and worked with Verena Rieser and Oliver Lemon to create a demo integrating their natural language generator.

January 2009, IAP Class

In January, 2009, Alex and Ian taught a course at MIT:
6.190 Web-based Speech Recognition Application Competition.
Keep an eye out in 2010 for a new and improved version. [Note, since the class, we have introduced the Javascript API, which makes it even easier to use WAMI.]

October 2008, WAMI public launch

Hello! Welcome. The open-source Java WAMI Toolkit is now available. We've been developing WAMI for several years, and have used it for a number of projects. Now we're making it publicly available.
